German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation is the development-policy arm of Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe. Its task is to disseminate the successful Sparkasse (German Savings Banks) model around the globe. By enabling people in developing countries and emerging economies to access financial services, it aims to create opportunities that will allow them to leave poverty behind.
In Eastern Africa, German Sparkassenstiftung started first interventions the 1990’s and began its project activities in 2008. Since then our project portfolio grew significantly. Currently, Eastern Africa has the second biggest regional projects within German Sparkassenstiftung worldwide.
German Sparkassenstiftung's activities in Eastern Africa are financed by Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
German Sparkassenstiftung is always working together with local partner institutions. Also in Eastern Africa, we have great partners working together with us on joint project objectives within the development of the microfinance sector.
